Projects we are preparing. All of them need volunteers.
Animal welfare
With a local NGO, we sterilise and vaccinate stray dogs and cats in and around Gokarna. We collect the animals, take them to a veterinarian in Goa, and return them to their home place. The whole process costs about 1,000 rupees per animal. Fewer strays means fewer animals that suffer without food or carry disease.
Community
We would like to host educational meetings so that everyone can learn to segregate and manage their waste, and cut pollution in Gokarna and the surrounding villages. We also plan education programs in schools, working with local people to keep their community clean.
Empowerment
We are working towards workshops, support groups and employment for local women: a safe place to strengthen women’s voices in the community and earn an income for themselves and their families.
Retreats
Shankar Prasad welcomes groups of all types to share time at the ashram. We have the capacity for small and large group retreats for people of all ages and interests.
On the land
We plan to build an organic self-maintained swimming pool in the back of our property to be used for relaxation and therapy.
