Mahashivratri

The night of Shiva, kept the way it has always been kept here: chanting, meditation, and staying awake together until morning.

Staying awake with Shiva

Mahashivratri is a vigil. The practice runs through the night in rounds of chanting, meditation and abhishekam, and the point is simply to remain — awake, and present, while everyone around you does the same.

Gokarna is a Shiva town, and the Atmalinga at Mahabaleshwar temple is a few kilometres away, so the whole area keeps this night. Guests staying at the ashram are welcome to join whatever part of it they can manage.

  • Chanting and meditation through the night
  • Abhishekam and havan
  • Open to guests staying at the ashram
